Who We Are

KCC is registered as a non – governmental, non profit making organization in terms of the South African Law of companies. The centre started operating in March 2004 following the completion of conversion in 2003. The centre was officially opened on the 18 th March 2005 by Dr Vincent Maphai, chairman of Bhpbilliton SA Limited and Mr. Bob Mabaso, former MEC for Gauteng Social Development.

The objective of the project is to meet the needs of the surrounding communities, particularly for children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. The Centre provides a much needed service to the surrounding communities in the Midvaal and Vaal triangle such as Sicelo, a settlement area near Samancor Manganese, De Deur, Sebokeng and Vereeniging. The population in this area is estimated at 78, 498 according to statistics by the Department of Health. Of the population, 51% are male and 49% are females. 29 997 are young people between the ages of 15 and 34, 27 396 are adults between ages of 35 and 64. About 13 403 of the population are children between 0 and 14 years and 9 400 is elderly people over the age of 60. Kotulong Community centre is the only existing community centre in the Midvaal area.
